New Arrival: Nikon SB-16 Speedlight

As it happens, the person from whom I acquired the Nikon F3 also had an SB-16 Speedlight. And being that the AS-17 adapter to use a standard hot-shoe flash in TTL mode on the F3 costs about $140.00, this was a cost-effective solution.

The AS-4 non-TTL adapter is cheap enough, but since the F3, like most pro bodies, comes equipped with a PC sync cord jack, I can simply put everything together on a flash bracket for that mode of shooting.

As speedlights go, the SB-16 is quite a workhorse. It’s unique in that it has a secondary “fill flash” tube on its body in addition to the tiltable, rotating head. So in essence, it’s two flashes in one.

The modular base can be swapped out for one that has a standard ISO Hot shoe.
