Removing Those Stubborn Rings

For those times when filters and step-up rings just won’t budge, you need the assistance of a “rubber husband”. That’s how my wife refers to those sheets of textured rubber used to remove stubborn jar lids.

The problem is, the tighter you grip the filter or step-up ring, the more you distort it, causing it to bulge out and tighten at a 90° angle to your grip.

Keep one of these jar lid removers in you bag, and the next time you have a stubborn ring, lay the rubber sheet on a flat surface and press the entire front surface of the ring or filter onto it while turning the lens (or, the other accessory it’s attached to.) It should come right off.
